Born and raised in Germany, Dorothée immigrated to Canada in 1989 at the age of 19. In 2005, she graduated from NSCAD University with a major in jewellery design and metalsmithing, and a minor in art history (focus craft).

Most pieces are one-of-a-kind within several series, or hand-made in limited editions. Her Onefooter and Crush rings in gold and silver are sold in galleries across the North America.

Dorothée likes working with line, and line in volume, and she likes moving metal. Her inspiration often begins in nature, where many lines are found. Like vines before they begin to sprout after the winter, or budding leaves against the sky in spring.

Summary: Blank Canvas Studio is the online showcase for the work of Swiss-Canadian artist Jessica Wyss.

Jessica works primarily in acrylic or mixed media to create large-scale abstract paintings. She is motivated by unconventional colour combinations, manipulating the material in such a way as to allow unexpected textures and surfaces to appear. Her work is an exercise in self-exploration, the release of constraint and judgement. She allows the colours, textures and surfaces to inspire her, and her instinct to guide the process, focusing on the experience of creating rather than the result.

Artist statement: It is nature’s beauty that interests me the most. I strive for a dialogue, a connection between organic forms, colours and my imagination. Using bold combinations of colour helps me to translate my perception onto the canvas.

Biography: Growing up in Switzerland Jacqueline Steudler had always an art project in various techniques and with many different materials on the go.As an elementary teacher and later in her work as a trained art therapist she was able to share her love for the arts with her students and clients.Her move to Nova Scotia in 2004 inspired her to dedicate more time to her painting practice. Steudler’s love for bold colour combinations is reflected in her mixed-media paintings.

Galleries in Switzerland and Canada have shown her paintings. Her works are collected both privately and publicly in Switzerland, Germany, and North Amerika.
